A conservative pastor sparked strong backlash on social media after making a religious comparison involving Donald Trump during an event linked to the MAGA movement in the United States.
According to the website Indy100, the statement was made during Rededicate 250, a religious event held at the National Mall in Washington, D.C., last Sunday (17).
During his speech, pastor Eric Metaxas claimed that Trump had been “chosen by God” to lead the United States and said the Republican was the target of “demonic attacks” because he represented a divine mission.
At one point, the religious figure even suggested that Trump was carrying out “God’s work on Earth” by renovating the White House to build a ballroom in the presidential residence.
Videos of the speech quickly drew criticism from internet users, mainly because of the audience’s reaction, which responded with applause and cheers of support for the religious statements involving the American president.
“Let me get this straight… Trump’s golden ballroom is God-ordained now?” one user asked. “Finally, the ballroom we have all been praying for for many years,” another joked. “The blasphemy is off the charts,” a third commented.
